In case you were worried that lives would be lost in the war to destabilize the Middle East and so forth, it turns out that production shocks are the real problem.
‘“One legacy of all this has been the nightmare scenario of the oil that flows through the Gulf being interdicted by an extended and destructive war,” he added. “The fear? That this will result in skyrocketing energy prices that send the world economy plummeting into a deep recession. Ever since the war in Iran began a week ago, Tehran has done everything it can to turn this into reality.”’
It’s telling that the “nightmare scenario” is the flow of oil being disrupted by war, and “The fear” is of skyrocketing energy prices and a worldwide economic depression. Somehow “Tehran” is making this a reality. We in the West have had more than fifty years to figure out our energy dependence and somehow it’s just always easier to go kill brown people.
To be fair, a worldwide economic depression is the second worst thing after a war for everybody without the resources to survive it. I guess we’ll see.
