If you’ve even heard of remittances, maybe you only think of Mexican workers or Cuban exiles sending money home from the United States.

But diaspora workers are all over the world and for all the reasons people leave home to find work, the money they send home has a significant impact on the national economy of their home country.

Indian diaspora workers in the Middle East send home more than $50 billion a year, so this new war in the Gulf is going to rattle India’s economy in more ways than just the impact to oil prices.

In short, without a clear vision from US leadership about the purpose, means, and expected outcome of the US and Israel’s attacks on Iran, and the downstream conflicts resulting, the only thing you can reliably say about this conflict is that it’s going to get more and more chaotic and consequential even for people who want to pretend it’s not happening.

We’ve kicked the anthill, poked the bear, smacked the hornets’ nest. Pick a metaphor; they’re all bad, and it’s all a result of not paying attention to the greed of all our political and social elites. It’s happening.
